PDP WAITING

PDP WAITING

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is trying to keep itself afloat in Kashmir by resuming its political activities. In the recent past some of its activists came out on the streets of Srinagar to protest against continued arrests and media gag.

Although police arrested those PDP activists, soon alleged curbs were re-imposed on the activities of this party in Kashmir. PDP recently tried to hold a meet of its political leaders in Kashmir but the authorities especially police did not allow them to hold such a meet.

PDP President and Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is still under detention and her residence on Gupkar road has been converted into sub-jail and she has been detained under PSA.

In the recent  past there were many conflicting media reports about her possible release but many of the New Delhi based houses have suggested that the central government is not in favor of her immediate release.

In such circumstances, PDP is suffering and many of its activists at the ground level have switched sides to other political forces especially to JK Apni Party which is regarded as close to the central government.

Although it is only a perception about Apni Party in serious circles of Kashmir but fact remains that right from the day first Altaf Bukhari, President of Apni Party was allowed to hold public meetings, party meetings despite being the violation of pandemic rules.
