Police arrests four drug peddlers in Srinagar; Huge quantity of Contraband substance recovered

Continuing its drive against drug dealings, Police in Srinagar have arrested four drug peddlers and recovered huge quantity of Contraband substance from their possession.

Srinagar police during Naka checking at Dogar Basti Haft Chinar under the supervision of SDPO Shaheedgunj apprehended a drug peddler identified as Tariq Ahmad sheikh resident of Haft Chinar Srinagar and on his instance were able to recover 318 grams of charas from his possession. He has been shifted to PS Shergarhi where he remains in custody.

A case FIR No. 54/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Shergarhi and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Meanwhile, Officers at a checkpoint established near Allochibagh Bund intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK01K-7386. They have been identified as Mohd Rafiq Sheikh resident of Solina Srinagar and Mudasir Ahmad Bhat resident of Hardoshiva Sopore.

During checking officers were able to recover 668 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Shergarhi where they remain in custody. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, a case FIR No 57/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Shergarhi and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Similarly, Officers at a checkpoint established at National Highway near Arise Hyundai intercepted one person identified as Nisar Ahmad Yatoo resident of Yagipora Magam Budgam. During checking, officers were able to recover 16 bottles of codeine phosphate from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Batamaloo where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 139/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Batamaloo and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community.(KNS)
