RECENT KILLINGS

Some of the recent killings including that of a lawyer in Srinagar has once more brought to the focus the growing vulnerability of political activists on ground to get killed while as the government has maintained that they are providing the security cover to all such people.

Chairman of Block Development Council (BDC) Khag, Bhupinder Singh in Budgam and a prominent lawyer and television debater Baber Qadri were killed by unknown gunmen, in the recent past, bringing a question mark on the security cover to those ground workers who are vulnerable to such attacks in Kashmir.

Baber Qadri before his killing in a tweet a few days back urged J&K Police to file an FIR against the person who was involved in a smearing campaign against dubbing him to be working for agencies. Police did not act but the gunmen came to his house and killed him at his Hawal residence in Srinagar.

Some local media reports have blamed some sections of separatists for the killing of Baber Qadri as he was very vocal against Hurriyat and against those lawyers like Mian Abdul Qayoom who were close to separatists. All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in a statement recently expressed shock and grief at the killing of Advocate Babar Qadri at his residence.

APHC said that such gruesome killing is condemnable and heartbreaking. As the conflict lingers another precious life falls prey to it, said the statement of Hurriyat.
