Mehbooba Mufti has triggered a huge controversy by her political remarks that she will not touch tricolor unless the state flag, JK constitution and the dignity was not restored by New Delhi.
Her statement in her first press conference after 14 months of detention has evoked huge chain reaction among the central leadership of BJP along with the local activists of BJP.
Fearing reversed in Bihar election, Congress has also distanced itself from her remarks and has said that such utterances were intolerable. Many BJP leaders called for the arrest of Mehbooba Mufti and some of them even called her separatist.
Local BJP leadership of Kashmir got their activists in vehicles from various parts and brought out a car rally carrying tricolor. They did a lot of sloganeering on the Gupkar road especially outside the residences of Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah. Mehbooba Mufti even faced a lot of opposition from her party cadres in Jammu region and three of her leaders have resigned due to her remarks regarding tricolor.
Mehbooba Mufti in spite of all opposition seems unfazed and is ready to make the programme for the People’s alliance. The alliance after meeting at Gupkar has said that they will hold their next meeting in Jammu and there will be a party convention in the month of November.
The confrontation at the political level will grow between BJP and the mainstream political parties of Kashmir in coming days. People’s alliance has already decided to keep the erstwhile J&K flag as their symbol for the struggle.
