Urgency of the matter

Supreme Court has been in the focus for many political developments and one of them is the abrogation of article 370 as the top court has referred a slew of petitions challenging the legality of it to a constitution bench. However, according to Kashmir mainstream political parties, it is now urgent to seek hearings in this matter as the central government has amended many laws and has also introduced many new laws which challenges the basic rights of people of Jammu and Kashmir especially their right to land and jobs.

In this direction recently J&K Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone, filed a fresh plea before the Supreme Court asking for early hearings to the number of writ petitions challenging the validity decisions taken on August 5, 2019, including the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the People’s Conference their plea before the Supreme Court for the early hearing has cited many laws and decisions taken by the central government not only to change the status queue but also the demography of Jammu and Kashmir.

Peoples Conference in its petition has said, “Notwithstanding the foregoing, pending the final hearing of these petitions challenging the abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir and the abrogation of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, and notwithstanding the prevailing pandemic conditions, sweeping changes are being brought about by the Centre that impact the rights of a large number of people, including dilution of the safeguards earlier available to the permanent residents of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir”.
