Digital Taxis

Government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken slew of measures in the recent past to go for the modernization of different sectors. In order to provide people hassle free service of taxis, Chief Secretary, B V R Subrahmanyam recently chaired a meeting to review the preparations to roll out plying of digital taxi services in Jammu and Kashmir.

There is good news for those entrepreneurs who are registered as a company as they can be the partners in the digital taxi service. The Transport Department of Jammu and Kashmir informed the Chief Secretary that any company registered under the Companies’ Act or a firm registered under the Partnership Act can apply for a license. The Department will, however, give preference to a registered company/firm of IT professionals from Jammu and Kashmir.

However, the norms are providing such opportunity only for those applicants who have been doing this business at least for past three years besides have a fleet of at least 50 taxis/ autos, a developed MIS system or 24X7 control room or web- portal/ mobile app for operation along with audited financial statements, and a registered office in the area of operation.

In such circumstances because of these rules there are very little opportunities for the locals to compete in such tenders. License for the locals would be difficult as they do not have a fleet of taxis or any such experience of the past. Locals have very slim chances for such an opportunity the government of Jammu and Kashmir will have to relax the rules otherwise these operations would be taken over by the outsiders in Jammu and Kashmir.
