After the election

The much-hipped DDC elections held in several phases are over and now political opponents have started making their own assumptions about this election.

There is no denying the fact that BJP dispatched central ministers to Jammu and Kashmir and there were many occasions when PAGD candidates were not allowed to move outside for campaigning.

Mehbooba Mufti one of the senior leaders of PAGD has even identified a village in Shopian in one of her tweets claiming that people of that particular village were not allowed to vote as police and security forces put a cordon on that village.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha after receiving some complaints from the PAGD candidates assured that he will provide a level playing field for all the candidates and will hold free and fair elections.

His assertions were vindicated when PAGD surged ahead of BJP and more than 50 independent candidates also won. This election has been a watershed in the recent political history of Kashmir as it was violence free and virtually incident free elections.

The victory of PAGD is definitely a setback for BJP as they have made this election as a referendum in favor or against article 370. The PAGD leadership is right when they say that this is a verdict from the people of Jammu and Kashmir against all the policies of the central government post August 5, 2019.
