SNOW PROBLEMS

The heavy snowfall being witnessed in most of the parts of Kashmir valley has multiplied the winter problems for the common people and the administration has not been able to respond to the needs of people on time.

Rural areas have been cut off and all the roads are full of snow and the clearance operations are yet to be taken up. In absence of clear roads, the patients of many rural areas have to trek a lot of distance to reach hospitals and there is no change even after so many decades about such problems in the rural areas.

Kashmir was cut off from the rest of the country as the arterial Jammu-Srinagar national highway and Mughal road were closed due to snowfall across the valley, leaving nearly 4500 vehicles stranded.

These are not only the vehicles but also the people in these vehicles who are stranded and the disaster response to such problems has been very poor.

The authorities have failed to take the required measures for the problems to be faced because of the heavy snowfall as the weather department had predicted days of snowfall much earlier.

The stranded vehicles and the people are facing the weather with only hope that the authorities will intervene and bring them out of this mess.

Highways especially Srinagar-Jammu highway remain disrupted for traffic for days together throughout the year.
