Way ahead

What is the way ahead for the present impasse in Jammu and Kashmir is the question being asked in the political circles. Post August 5, 2019, there has been a political lull in entire Jammu and Kashmir and due to the arrest of all the political leaders including former chief ministers no political activity was visible here.

After their release from the detentions, all the political leaders especially the former chief ministers and ministers decided to make a new political platform which they had envisaged on August 4, 2019 and name it as Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah was declared as its president with Mehbooba Mufti as vice president and Sajad Gani Lone of Peoples Conference as spokesman.

These all political parties declared that they will fight together for the greater cause of restoration of article 370, and will give a united fight to all the decisions taken by New Delhi post August 5, 2019.

Soon the Government declared that they will hold DDC elections and it created a flutter in the political circles, resulting in a lot of meetings between the different units in an amalgam of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.

They finally decided to contest these elections and not give the space to the BJP and other parties. It was a huge political decision taken by Peoples Alliance For Gupkar Declaration as its earlier utterances showed that they were not interested in elections and only wanted to fight on all the platforms available including courts for the restoration  of article 370.
