There has been a lot of demand from the rural population of Kashmir for the resumption of railway services and Northern railways on Monday started Baramulla to Banihal Train Services.

The service was suspended on March 19, 2020, in view of the spread of a novel coronavirus pandemic, in Jammu and Kashmir and the administration started a shutdown which remained in force for months.

The common people have been forced to go in other means of transport in absence of train services as it is one of the cheap sources of commutation.

Although railways have resumed the service from Banihal to Baramulla but they have decided to only make two trips during the day instead of a lot of such trips earlier when the service was resumed after the clampdown.

“For now there will be only two trips which will begin at 9:10 AM from Baramulla and at 11:25 AM from Banihal,” Says Saqib Yousuf who holds the charge of Northern Railways, Srinagar Chief Railway Manager.
