No elections yet

There would be no elections in the immediate future in Jammu and Kashmir is the opinion of most of the political parties including those considered to be close to BJP.

BJP unit of Jammu and Kashmir is the only political voice which has a different opinion about the holding of elections as they said that extension of one year to delimitation commission does not mean that they will take a full year to complete the process.

The JK Apni Party which is being accused to be the king’s party in Jammu and Kashmir has been very active on the ground and has been holding even the meetings as they thought that the assembly elections would be held soon in Jammu and Kashmir.

Most of the political parties have been appealing BJP to keep their promise of restoration of statehood as was said by the Union Home Minister on the floor of the house during the debate while abrogating the article 370 and reducing the erstwhile J&K State into two union territories.

The Union Home Minister at that point of time promised in the parliament that downgrading Jammu and Kashmir to a union territory was a temporary phenomenon and it would be given back the status of the state as soon as the situation would normalize.

Under such circumstances, it was expected that the statehood would be restored to Jammu and Kashmir and the elections would be held for the state and not for the legislature of union territory.
