Bird flu scare in various parts of Lolab Kupwara

People living in many villages of Lolab and other areas of Kupwara district have seen a lot of dead crows and also the carcasses of few foxes, bringing fears of massive bird flu in these areas.

While there is a lot of panic among the residents as they have no idea of whether this infection is going to spread or not, the authorities have visited the spots and are busy taking the samples for the tests.

Local reporters said that the bird flu scare was triggered when the villagers of Gundmacher area in Lolab early this morning saw lot of dead crows in their village.

The panic was multiplied when in the same village at some distance, the locals saw the carcasses of around three foxes were also spotted at several places in the vicinity.

Meanwhile agencies have reported about this incident as follows.

“The authorities have been intimated about the issue and we expect a quick follow-up in the matter”, a senior citizen of the area said adding that “Nonetheless the area has been witnessing a spike in the mortality rate of poultry birds even.”

Meanwhile when contacted SDM Lolab, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat told GNS that a team will be shortly sent to the area to take the samples of affected fauna, as to ascertain the cause of their death.
