Hundreds of vehicles are stranded including trucks laden with essential items on many spots of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway as the authorities closed down this surface link on Tuesday due to a landslide and mudslide in Ramban district.

Traffic authorities have said that 200 vehicles are stranded as the heavy rains have resulted in landslides at many places in the Ramban sector of the highway and said that clearance operation was going on.

Heavy rains have resulted in mudslides and landslides and it was very difficult for the men and machinery to clear the debris as the rains were going on and they could not clear the highway.

According to the news agency PTI 270-km highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, was blocked by the landslide in Digdol area, they said.

Work is underway to remove the debris but shooting stones are making the task difficult, they said.
