There have been a lot of rains from March beginning and these spells have shown on the ground that the drainage system is a failure especially in Srinagar city.
The current spell of incessant rains is submerging many lanes and bylanes of Srinagar city and many low lying areas of the city are now submerged in water.
Whenever there are spells of rain and snow in Kashmir valley, it leaves life out of gear and has an impact on the lives of people. Despite so many years and a lot of investment on the construction of roads and drainage systems, the authorities have failed to set right the flaws in the system especially in the drainage system.
On many wetlands in Srinagar city, the authorities in the past have allowed construction of housing colonies including in Batmaloo, Bemina and other low lying areas of Srinagar city.
With the result all these colonies are suffering now as the heavy rains always result in submerging of these colonies and it adds to the difficulties of the people for their daily life.
The current spell of rains has impacted life in many parts of Srinagar city and even the water bodies are swelling including river Jhelum due to these rains.
