Many Congress workers staged a protest demonstration in Rajouri district against the growing burden of taxes on the common people by the BJP government.

Police detained Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir along with many other party leaders on Tuesday during a protest in Rajouri district.

Congress Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir, regarded to be close to Gandhi family has been trying to maintain a distance from the Jammu Congress leader and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad after he organized a rally asking for more transparency within the party.

It was followed by counter protests by the Congress workers raising slogans in favor of Rahul Gandhi and against Ghulam Nabi Azad. There has been a huge group of senior leaders in the Congress rallying around Azad for proper elections and for the election of party chief of the Congress at the central level.

Meanwhile KNO news agency while reporting about the Tuesday protests at Rajouri by the Congress chief of JK Ghulam Ahmad Mir has said in its report quoting eyewitnesses that Mir along with other party leaders and workers carried out a protest march against what they called as “Tax Terrorism” and rising fuel prices.

According to witnesses, a protest was held at district headquarters in which former cabinet minister Raman Bhalla, party’s chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, district president Shabir Khan and other leaders along with party workers participated.

They said that protesters started their rally from children park and were scheduled to stage a dharna at Gujjar Mandi, however, police personnel stopped the dharna at Dak Bungalow gate, resulting in minor confrontation between protesters and cops.

Meanwhile, an official said that JKPCC chief GA Mir along with several party workers and leaders were detained and were shifted to police lines.

“We are in protest against Tax Terrorism and rising fuel prices but the Government is trying to crush our voice with the help of police,” Mir said.
