Woman beats husband to death with paramour’s help, says Baramulla police

Srinagar: More than a month after the death of a 34-year-old man at Renji Pattan, police on Thursday claimed to have worked out the case by arresting his wife and another person, alleged paramour of the woman, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“On the intervening night of 8 and 9 March, one Mohammad Altaf Malik son Ghulam Rasool Malik of Seriwarpora son in law of late Abdul Razaq Ganie was found dead near his cowshed at Renji. He was later buried by family members,” a police spokesman said in a statement to GNS.

On 22 March, Altaf’s brother submitted an application for initiating inquest proceedings as he and his family members were suspicious regarding the death.

Accordingly, as per formal orders of District Magistrate Baramulla, the body was exhumed and postmortem was conducted by a panel of doctors from GMC Baramulla.

After the receipt of the interim Medical Report and the statements of some prime witnesses, the inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC were converted into FIR (62/2021) under section 302 IPC of police station Pattan, the spokesman said. Police formed Special Investigation Team headed by SDPO Pattan.

The SIT initiated a thorough investigation, activated all sources and by using a blend of technical and human intelligence, finally fix the radar on the wife of the deceased, Tasleema Begum, the spokesman said.

“She was last seen with the deceased and was put to sustained questioning during which she disclosed the commission of the crime along with one Ghulam Mohammad Dar son of Mohammad Ramzan Dar of Renji.”

The duo, the spokesman said, had hatched a conspiracy to kill the deceased a month before the occurrence as “they were in an illegitimate relationship.”

“On 8th March both gave a final touch to their plan and accordingly Tasleema called Ghulam Mohammad during the night and they both bludgeoned Altaf to death. Thereafter they took the body and threw it near cowshed to conceal the manner of death and camouflage it as death due to slipping,” the spokesman said, adding, “Both the accused have been arrested, the weapon of offence recovered on their disclosure, further investigation is in progress.” (GNS)
