A search and rescue operation was on Monday resumed to trace a youth, who went missing after a bear attack in a forest area in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal on Sunday.
Official sources on Monday said that with the first light, joint teams of J&K police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Wildlife department resumed the search and rescue operation to tract out the missing youth, identified as Javaid Ahmad Mir, in Hapat Gaand forest area of Naranag Kangan.
They said Mir and two of his other friends were attacked by a wild bear when they had gone to Hapat Gaand forest area for fishing on Sunday. “The other two youth, who were badly wounded, were rescued by locals while Mir went missing from the spot,” they said.
They said a search operation was immediately launched in the forest area, but the youth couldn’t be found. “The operation was called off last evening due to darkness,” they said.
They said efforts are on to trace the missing youth as multiple teams are searching for him in the area.
