Senior separatist leader Sehrai buried in presence of family members, IGP

 Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai , detained under Public Safety Act (PSA), who died in a Jammu hospital Wednesday afternoon was buried as per COVID-19 protocol in presence of family members, a senior police officer said.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said Sehrai was buried at his native place as per COVID protocol in presence of his family members.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter a police spokesman said “Burial of separatist leader late Ashraf Shehrai completed as per Covid #protocol in presence of family members at his native place :IGP Kashmir.

Sehrai was arrested and booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) in July last year and later lodged in Udhampur Jail, official sources said.

The separatist leader who was suffering multi ailment was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu on Tuesday evening after his condition deteriorated. However, the senior separatist leader, a close confident of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, died around 1205 hrs on Wednesday.

His son Junaid Ashraf  Sehrai, who had joined Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was killed in an encounter in May last year in the Nawa Kadal area in the down town.

Several political leaders, including former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, Apni Party (AP) president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami and Peoples Conference (PC) president Sajjad Gani Lone condoled the demise of Sehrai.
