The civil witness of Kunan incident of Kupwara dies

According to the news reports coming from Kunan Poshpora village of Kupwara, the only civil witness to that tragic incident of 1990 died a natural death.

85 year old Abudl Aziz Shah was laid to rest in his ancestral village and was the Lumberdar of his village. It is in place to mention that during the intervening night of February 23-24, 1990, late Abdul Aziz Shah was accompanying Rajputana Rifles of army along with two police cops for the searches.

He was the first civilian to inform the local administration about the mass rape incident in his village.

Then Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Wajahat Habibullah ordered a probe and wrote a letter to his high ups speaking in detail about the incident.

Lumberdar’s statement is in all the investigation reports conducted by civilian authorities’ police and army.
