After the killing of 4 year old girl, several leopards spotted in Budgam

In the Budgam district, people have told media agencies that they have spotted several leopards in the recent past and the authorities were not taking the required steps to capture them alive especially the wildlife department.

While the leopard that kills the girl is still at large according to the locals of the area, Wildlife department on Saturday caught a leopard alive in Khudpora Khan-Sahib area.

The people living near the forests especially the Nilnag area of Budgam have several times spotted leopards around their villages. Huproo village near the Nilnag has seen such leopards many times even during the winters and informed the government but the wildlife department according to the locals did nothing to capture them.

Meanwhile according to the news agency KNO reporting about the presence of leopards in the Budgam has said one of the leopards was spotted near Ompora Housing Colony in Budgam, where the incident happened yesterday.

He said that the leopard, which was spotted in Khudpora area of Khan-Sahib, was caught alive by the officials of the Wildlife department and has been taken to a safer location.

He said that the search operation, for two more leopards that were spotted in two different localities of Budgam, has been launched. “We will continue the searches till we track them down,” the official said.
