Ganderbal political activist released by police

After a lot of political reactions in Kashmir valley over the arrest of Sajad Sofi, a 52 year old who was detained by police was released on Wednesday.

Earlier most of the political parties have appealed LG Manoj Sinha to uphold democracy and release the activist as soon as possible. Most of the political leaders in Kashmir have said that his arrest is the reflection of the ground situation in Kashmir valley.

Meanwhile KNS in its report about his release has said, Sajad Rashid Sofi a political activist of Safapora area of Ganderbal district arrested after a heated exchange of words with an IAS officer last week was on Wednesday released after getting bail from a local court.

Confirming his release SSP Ganderbal Suhail Munawar told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Sajad has been released.

Locals had alleged that Sajad was booked for saying that he has more expectations from a Kashmiri than a non-Kashmiri officer at a meeting on June 10.

It may be recalled here that Sajad Rashid Sofi had made the comments while addressing Baseer Khan the advisor to Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha, in presence of an IAS officer.

Locals said Sofi, a social activist, accompanied a delegation to meet Khan on June 10 to present their demands related to developmental work in the area. Locals accompanying Sofi had said that he talked to Khan in Kashmiri in presence of the IAS officer and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suhail Munawar Mir.
