After the central government carved out a separate union territory of Ladakh, residents of Leh hailed this effort of the government at the initial stage.

Later on they started demanding some safeguards on the pattern of article 370 for their interests like jobs, land and culture. The Kargil region opposed the move and have been supporting either restoration of the complete state of Jammu and Kashmir or they want Ladakh to be declared as a separate state.

After the recent outreach by the Prime Minister to the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir, the centre is going to meet the leadership of Ladakh to listen to their demands so that their aspirations are fulfilled.

In this direction recent media reports said that the central government has invited the Kargil Democratic Alliance, a body of leaders representing Kargil district, to confirm the upcoming meeting tentatively scheduled for July 1.

Central government has already given the powers for the dialogue with the leadership of Ladakh to Junior Minister of Home GK Reddy. He is expected to chair the meeting. It is learnt that the representatives of the two districts of Ladakh Leh and Kargil are discussing the issues to be raised for the development of Ladakh. A section of leaders have been seeking statehood for Ladakh.

When the talks are held with the leadership of Kargil it will unfold what the central government is going to do with Ladakh region as there is growing demand for the safeguards and even the legislature.
