DC B’am reviews functioning of NRLM

Stresses for self-reliance, sustainability to achieve objective of NRLM

BUDGAM, JULY 15: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza today convened a meeting here to review the functioning of National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC stressed upon making NRLM a success across districts by ensuring effective implementation of NRLM.

It is pertinent to mention that NRLM is a self employment driven program focusing upon socio-economic empowerment among rural women.

At the outset, the District Programme Manager (DPM), NRLM Shinera Sajad briefed the meeting about the tasks being undertaken by NRLM in the district.

She said that social mobilization of rural women is undertaken through Gram Sabha besides meetings are convened on monthly basis to make rural women aware about the benefits of NRLM. She further added that savings of the SHG are pooled in one common bank account out of which funds are redistributed among women on a revolving basis.

The DPM further revealed that till date, 479 villages, 37735 households, 4258 SHGs have been covered under NRLM in Budgam, adding that besides Village level and Cluster level federations of SHGs are also in operation in the district.

The DC instructed that a big organization at Block Level federation should be set up for which all remaining villages and panchayats shall be brought under the ambit of NRLM at an earliest. He also emphasized upon social security benefits for rural women and in this regard, the DC instructed all concerned to act swiftly.

The DC also discussed various modalities and issues related to NRLM in the meeting including marketing facilities for products manufactured by SHGs and in this connection, a patch of land at various locations across district shall be identified and handed over to Cluster level federation for further economic activity.

Further, NRLM Department in District shall opt for usage of information and technology to give boost for the sale of products made by SHGs, the DC added.

Department of agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts, handloom and animal husbandry under their various schemes shall tie up and converge with these SHGs to look for other viable economic activities concerning rural women, he directed.

The DC also took stock of the functioning of the District Employment and Counseling Centre, Budgam and instructed the concerned officer to hold a Job Fair at District level within a week in collaboration with ITI Budgam.

The meeting among others was also attended by GM DIC Budgam, CPO, CMO and other concerned officers and officials.
