Qazigund-Banihal tunnel is now open for traffic on trial

Srinagar

According to the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, on twitter he announced that the 8.5 km tunnel between Qazigund and Banihal has been thrown open for traffic on a trial basis.

Government recently completed the work on this important project and it has been completed on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and this tunnel will provide a lot of comfort to the travelers on this road.

Gadkari, described the completion of the tunnel as yet another milestone in infrastructure development of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, another milestone in infrastructure development of Jammu & Kashmir is fulfilled.  The 8.5 km tunnel between Qazigund and Banihal has been completed and open to traffic for trial,” Union Minister in his tweet said.

In another Tweet he said: “Built at 5800 feet above sea level, the tunnel will replace Jawahar tunnel and will provide all weather connectivity. It will reduce travel time between Jammu – Srinagar by about 1.5 hours & 16 km.”

According to KNS news report on this development Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narandra Modi for his vision of quality infrastructure in the union territory.

“I am deeply grateful to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji for his vision of building quality infrastructure in J&K for the coming generations. The UT has recently witnessed a phase of unprecedented progress in Road connectivity projects among others,” the Office of LG J&K Tweeted.
