After the statement of Farooq Abdullah that he is optimistic about the new Taliban government, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti has said that the new political dispensation in Afghanistan should respect human rights and give all the rights to the women.

“Taliban has now become a reality; they should ensure that their earlier image was against humanity and basic rights; now if they want to rule Afghanistan, they should follow the real Sharia rules which include rights for women – not the ones they say – then only they can have relations with other countries,” Mehbooba Mufti was quoted by news agencies saying so.

She was addressing a public gathering in Kulgam district. She said that the Taliban should not repeat the mistakes of the past as they will have to build relations with all the countries.

Earlier Farooq Abdullah has urged the Taliban to respect human rights and to develop friendly relations with all the countries of the world. Both former chief ministers have expressed hope that the new Taliban government will lead by example and give people the space to live according to their wishes.
