DGP reviews security of Oil & Gas infrastructure in J&K

 Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Wednesday reviewed security of Oil and Gas infrastructure in J&K and stressed on enhanced cooperation between stakeholders and use of technology to keep these installations safe.

A police spokesperson on Wednesday said that a meeting of Onshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC) was today held at Srinagar under the chairmanship of Mr Singh, who is also chairman of the OSCC J&K.

In the keynote address, Mr Singh said the meeting could not be held during past two years because of COVID-19. He complimented the officers of police, security forces and the officers/personnel of IOC for having excellent coordination which is pivotal to securing the assets of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and its operations.

The DGP reviewed the security being provided to the oil and Gas infrastructure in J&K at different locations. He impressed upon the officers to use technology by upgrading the CCTV systems.

He also asked for regular coordination and meetings between Police, IOC and district administration. He said that regular interactions and exchange of idea of civil/police officers and managers of Oil Industry in J&K would help in taking prompt action wherever and whenever required.

The DGP informed that during any law and order situation police and district administration makes special arrangements for the operation and distribution of petroleum products and LPG to the consumers.

The DGP impressed on strengthening the access control and upgrading the instruments being used for checking of vehicles and people moving into the IOCs installations. He also directed the concerned stakeholders to prepare contingency plans in case of any emergency or to meet any challenge.  He also directed for having a system with regard to the cyber security. He said that more and more use of technology for securing the installations can multiple the security of systems.

The meeting was attended by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, DIG BSF Srinagar, M A Joyee,  Rajan Kumar Mohaptra DHR Indian Oil Corporation Ltd Convener OSCC J&K, Sujoy Chowdhary ED &SH Punjab State  office India Oil Corporation, Nodal officer J&K, Nissar Ahmad Joint Director Geology  & Mines and other officers.

Mr Mohaptra in his address thanked Mr Singh for sparing the valuable time for the meeting. He thanked officers of J&K Police/ civil administration and CAPF for extending support in the challenging conditions, which has enabled Oil industry in maintaining smooth operation of supply petroleum products in the region.
