Shopkeepers and traders of Shaheed Gunj area protested on Thursday against the traffic police authorities as they have barricaded the area for the traffic diversion.

They said that due to this act of the traffic police, their trade and customers have been affected badly because of the barricade erected. They said that due the closure of the area, most of their customers were not able to come for the trade to this commercial center.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Shaheed Gunj Traders federation president, Raja Fida Hussian Khan said they are suffering for the last two years due to closure of this road. “We are already at a loss from 2014, if customers cannot walk through our market, how can we proceed with our daily business,” he said.

He said that this is not diversion, this is simply closure of the road. “We have families to feed and our business depends on this road. How can we survive, if this road will not be opened normally. If being a shopkeeper of Srinagar is a crime then we must be punished at once,” he said.

He also said that Basant Rath was handling all the traffic mess of the city individually, but now the Traffic police is only using barricades and closing roads.
