Cultivation of mustard was one of the favorite crops of farmers in Kashmir and this was one of the main reasons that the fields in Kashmir valley used to look all yellow with mustard flowers sprouting in spring season.
The cultivation of mustard has diminished and now the department of agriculture has launched a campaign across Kashmir valley for the cultivation of mustard so that the income of the farmers is doubled.
Recently Director Agriculture Kashmir launched this campaign from Srinagar district in order to educate and encourage farmers to go for the mustard cultivation.
He said the agro climatic conditions for the cultivation of mustard are very conducive and we are expecting good returns in days to come.
Highlighting the importance of recent technologies for crop improvement programs, he said that various conventional methods have been exploited for enhancing the yield of oilseed crops like mustard; however for further improvement there is a need to adopt recent technologies, which will lead to improved sustainability.
He asked the officers of the department to work in close coordination with the farming community and ensure that all the recent interventions are being adopted and practiced by the farmers on their field.
