Apple Festival

After the recent heavy losses to the apple industry especially to the orchardists in Kashmir valley due to the untimely snow, the government has not only directed its officials to go for assessment of damages but it has been declared as natural calamity.

LG Manoj Sinha recently inaugurated Apple Festival-2021 at SKICC and said that untimely rain, hailstorm and snow have been declared a natural calamity and UT-specific disaster. Government will provide relief to all the farmers, who have suffered damages in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Union Agriculture Minister also said that collective efforts of agricultural scientists, government and stakeholders will take horticulture and agriculture in J&K to new heights.

The government will arrange Seller-Buyer meets, awareness & technical sessions during the two-day festival will bring all stakeholders to a common platform as assurance given by the government to the farmers.

He also felicitated progressive farmers and released informative booklets on High Density Plantation, Nurseries and Orchards and inspected stalls displayed by government departments and private players

High density plantation in the orchards of Kashmir is one of the areas of focus of the horticulture department in Kashmir valley especially in South Kashmir as thousands of grown up apple trees were damaged in the recent untimely snow.
