Ladakh witnesses 2 Covid-19 deaths, schools closed in Leh as students found Corona positive

The Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh reported two deaths and 13 fresh positive cases of Covid-19 pandemic, while 15 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals during the past 24 hours, a medical bulletin released by the Directorate of Health Service, Leh said here.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Leh township of Ladakh Union Territory closed all educational institutions after 25 students were found positive with the Novel Coronavirus infection.

Two deaths were reported from the UT on Saturday, taking the toll to 211 out of which 153 are from Leh district and 58 from Kargil district, a statement said here.

The statement said 13 new positive cases were reported in the Union Territory on Saturday, out of which, 12 were reported by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Leh and one sample was received by CMO Kargil, taking the tally of positive cases to 312.

Nine patients were discharged by CMO Leh and six were discharged elsewhere yesterday. There are 154 total number of Covid-19 active cases in  Ladakh UT — 149 in Leh and five in Kargil district.

The statement further said that 597 passengers were screened at KBR Airport Leh on Saturday, while 149 passengers, including drivers and helpers of trucks and light motor vehicles, were screened at Khaltsi check post.

District Magistrate of Leh Shrikant Balasheb issued orders to close down all educational institutions in Leh township of Ladakh to contain the spread of infection from November 15 till further orders. Total 25 samples of students were found positive.
Reports said the test of 20 students was found positive in a Leh school on November 7 and 25 more students were reported positive yesterday.
However, the reports said examination of 11th and 12th classes would be held on the prescribed dates in the UT, keeping in view all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
