55 marginalized girls tie knot at a function in Srinagar

At least 55 couples tied knot at a ‘mass marriage’ ceremony held for marginalized females from different parts of Kashmir in Srinagar.

The function was held by Jammu and Kashmir Jaffaria Concil Budgam.

The relatives and friends of the couples were present on the occasion.

“There were 55 couples in today’s ceremony. Females are from underprivileged section of society whose families were unable to bear the expenses of marriage. By the grace of God, the function of was held smoothly and we hope these girls will now lead a respectable life,” Chairman Jafria Council, Haji Musadiq Hussain told news agency Kashmir News Trust.

He said since 2015, the Council has arranged marriages of hundreds of marginalized women in Kashmir. “In 2015, we conducted marriages of 38 poor girls, 70 in 2016, 75 in 2017, 105 in 2018, 83 in 2019 while we were unable to conduct marriage of any poor girl in 2020 due to Covid-19 related lockdown. However, this year in 2021, we conducted marriages of 55 girls,” he said and appealed society to come forward and help downtrodden females. (KNT)
