Flights canceled, roads closed as Kashmir witnesses fresh snowfall

Kashmir valley especially the higher reaches are witnessing fresh snowfall which has resulted in cancellation of many flights on Tuesday while as many roads have been closed due to the snowfall.

In the higher reaches of Kashmir valley reports suggest that light to moderate snowfall is going on till this report is being filed while as in the plains there was only a light snowfall and also rains.

Due to the fresh snowfall, there is a pleasant chill in the air while the severe cold weather conditions which were triggered by the dry weather and clear skies have disappeared.

There has been a huge rush of tourists to Kashmir valley on the eve of New Year and many of them are still here and are only waiting for the fresh snow so that they can enjoy the weather.

Reports from Gulmarg said that it is covered in the white blanket while Srinagar-Zojila road is already closed due to the fresh snowfall with Sonmarg also looking white in the snow.

Director Srinagar International Airport, Kuldeep Singh told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that so far 22 flights to and from Srinagar have been canceled due to prevalent weather conditions.

He said that the decision over the rest of 20 flights including one international today will be taken according to the weather conditions.

Pertinently, Kashmir parts received fresh snowfall, bringing down the temperature further across the Valley.

The weatherman here has predicted moderate to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh till January 09, 2022.
