Doctors, paramedics and frontline workers getting infected in Kashmir

In a surprise development, lot of doctors, paramedics and other frontline workers of the health department have tested positive to covid, sending alarm bells in the medical fraternity and also among the people.

According to the official figures the so far positivity among the medical fraternity has reached to 249 in fortnight.

Reports said that 42 doctors and paramedics of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and its associated hospitals have tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 42 doctors and paramedics were tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.

Officials said that around 130 doctors and 120 paramedical staff from SMHS, LD hospital, Super Specialty Hospital Shireen Bagh and other associated hospitals have been tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 15 days.

He said that with more doctors and paramedics testing positive, “it is becoming a challenging situation to deal with the virus.”

“Despite the cases have increased generally, hospital admissions haven’t increased proportionally as most cases are mild and don’t need hospitalization,” an official said.
