COVID-19: Weekend lockdown continues for 2nd straight day across J&K

In wake of the spurt in the Covid-19 cases across Jammu and Kashmir, the restrictions on the non-essential movement continued for the second straight day on Saturday.

The 64-hour lockdown began in J&K on Friday afternoon and will culminate on Monday morning.

The decision to impose weekend lockdown was taken by the State Executive Committee (SEC) headed by Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta.

Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that all the markets, shops and other business establishments remained closed throughout the day while the public transport was also off the roads.

They informed that the people who were found without face masks or disobeying the government guidelines related to Covid-19 were fined.

Several checkpoints were laid by the policemen today to ensure the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) during which the commuters violating the norms were fined.

Pertinently, the government had ordered the 64-hours weekly lockdown beginning Friday 02:00 PM to Monday 06:00 AM till further orders.

“There will be complete restriction on non-essential movement in the entire J&K from every Friday 2.00 pm to Monday 6.00 am, henceforth,” Chairman State Executive Committee and Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta said in an order, amending the previous order issued last week—(KNO)
