Government goes tough against illegal mining in Kulgam district

After a lot of complaints by the general public that there can be new sinkholes in different snow fed streams of Kulgam if the illegal mining would not be stopped, the government has swung into action and has raided many places.

On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Tehsildar D.H.Pora, Mr. Niyaz Ahmad Bhat along with SHO DH Pora and police party from SDPO DH Pora raided the Nallas of villages Bathipora and Yaroo today at around 8:00 AM to stop the illegal mining being carried by some criminals in order to earn money.

According to the witnesses, the gang of the persons escaped from the spot leaving behind their vehicles like tractors etc whose identity is being ascertained. The raids will continue in future also to protect the Nallas on one hand and industrial estate on other hand, the Tehsildar said.

The industrial estate is coming up on 400 kanals of land which will provide huge benefits to locals, but such illegal activities are putting hurdles to it. The people of the area hailed the said exercise of Tehsil Administration and have asked them to keep such raids going on in the area so that there is no illegal mining.
