Rohingya group of preachers held at Ramban by police

Srinagar: Reports from Ramban said that police has detained a group of Rohingya Muslim preachers from the two Masjids in Ramban and they have been shifted to the detention centre at Kot Balwal.

Local reporters from Ramban told this newspaper that after detaining them from two Masjids they were taken to `holding centre of foreigners’ at Hira Nagar. There are no further reports whether they would be detained under any law or not. A senior police officer has been quoted by media in Jammu that these Rohingya Muslims were detained because they are foreign nationals. He said that they don’t any legal documents to be in the country.

Reports said that police detained them from the Jamia Masjid of Dar Mohalla of Sangaldan in Gool. Reports said that they have been living as refugees in Bhantindi and Narwal areas of Jammu region from the past many years.

A Rohingya refugee leader Mushtaq Ahmad has been quoted by the media saying that the arrest of these people from Ramban has created a panic situation in their camps in the Jammu region.
