Article 370 petitions to be heard in SC after summer vacation

In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Monday has agreed to consider listing of the pleas challenging the Centre’s decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the media reports appearing in New Delhi, Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justice Hima Kohli took note of one of the advocates appearing for one of the petitions challenging the abrogation of article 370.

Advocate pleaded with the bench that it needs an urgent hearing as the delimitation exercise has been carried out in Jammu and Kashmir.

The media reports further said that after hearing the advocate Chief Justice “Let me see,” the CJI said, adding, “This is a five-judge matter. I will have to reconstitute the bench.”

According to news agencies in its news report on hearing of petition in SC it said as follows.

The court agreed to re-constitute a five-judge bench to hear pleas after summer vacation.

Several petitions challenging the Centre’s decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which splits J-K into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh — were referred to a Constitution Bench headed by Justice N V Ramana in 2019 by the then CJI Ranjan Gogoi.
