Night Temperature Improves In Kashmir Due To Cloud Cover, Snowfall

Night temperature improved significantly due to cloud cover and overnight snowfall at most parts of the Kashmir valley on Friday.
Meteorological Department forecast of mainly dry weather with scattered light rain/snow over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
Kupwara in north Kashmir’s frontier district received the highest snowfall of 20.0cms , followed by ski resort of Gulmarg 16.5cms, Pahalgam 1.3cms,Kukernag 5.0cms and Srinagar 3.0cms in the last 24hours till 0830hours.
Most places of Kashmir recorded a significant surge in night temperature for the first time after settling at sub zero level for more than a fortnight.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.3 degree Celsius against minus 3.2 degree Celsius. It was 1.8 degree Celsius above normal for this period of the season.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway had a low of minus 2.0 against minus 3.2 the previous night.
Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam had a low of minus 4.9 degree Celsius against minus 4.5 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. It was 0.3 degree Celsius above normal.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 5.5 degree Celsius against minus 4.8 degree Celsius previous night. It was 0.7 degree Celsius above normal for the valley of meadow during this period of the season.
Kukernag minus 2.0 degree Celsius against minus 2.3 degree Celsius while Kupwara had a low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius against minus 3.3 degree Celsius the previous night.
