DC Srinagar reviews implementation of Jal Shakti schemes; takes stock of water supply position in the District

Asks for undertaking survey to assess the projected demand of Water over next 5 years, 10 years respectively

SRINAGAR FEBRUARY27:- In order to ensure that all households of Srinagar District receive clean and uninterrupted water supply as per the existing water schemes, a meeting of Officers of  PHE Department  was held under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz here today at Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review of the existing water supply position and measures undertaken to address the issues related to further improve the supply of drinking water to the consumers of the District.

The DC was also apprised about the status of different water supply schemes presently supplying drinking water facilities in the City. He was informed about the Maintenance and Repairs(M&R) funds, redeployment of manpower resources, utilisation of available tankers etc.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner stressed on identifying the inadequate or infrequent supply areas and addressing the shortage points so that people do not face any difficulty for want of drinking water especially during the upcoming summer.

The DC asked officers to prepare long-term plan and a short term plan to meet the supply with the demand so that no household is left without safe and clean drinking water facilities.

The DC also laid thrust on critical resources and infrastructure for water production and carriage to arrest the loss of water and called for taking immediate measures to plug the leakages. He asked the officers to ensure effective monitoring of M&R Works and the funds are being properly utilised with visible impact on ground.

The DC asked the concerned Officers to work in close coordination with other line departments to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing water supply schemes and projects. He also asked them to sensitize people about judicious use of drinking water and avoid its wastage to ensure that the available resources are utilized efficiently.

With regard to land issues and pending court cases, the DC asked the Officers to expedite the process of all such cases so that they are disposed of at the earliest for smooth implementation and functioning of the PHE schemes for the larger interest of the public.

Additional District Development Commissioner Srinagar, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, the meeting was among others attended by Chief Planning Officer, Superintending Engineer, PHE, Executive Engineer PHE, Executive Engineer Mechanical and other concerned Officers.
