Recently Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while praising NEP 2020 said that his administration should go for  grassroots-centric implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing the need to adapt its ideals to the socio-cultural fabric of the region. He was addressing a conference on empowering education leaders for holistic education at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

Many education experts have already suggest to J&K government that they should focus on systemic issues like subject availability and language instruction, noting that many schools and colleges struggle with faculty shortages. He also pointed out the urban-rural divide in access to education and infrastructure, emphasizing that government schools often operate in harsh, remote conditions.

The Chief Minister lauded students who presented innovative solutions at the conference exhibition, saying that they lack exposure and opportunities rather than intelligence or creativity. He stressed the need for inclusion in education, questioning whether the current system is truly accessible to children with physical or learning challenges.

Omar Abdullah emphasized that teachers play a crucial role in shaping citizens, instilling values, and building futures. He urged educators to align the spirit of NEP with the unique needs of Jammu and Kashmir, building an education system that is academically strong, socially rooted, and forward-looking.
